Welcome to the next instalment of our regular Whisky Under Fifty reviews, where we review a different whisky (or whiskey) that you can buy for less than £50! If you’d like to know more about why we're doing this series, read our introduction post here.
In this edition of Whisky Under Fifty, we're looking at an indie blend. Here at the Dram Team we're big fans of indie bottlers and the terrific work they do. Today we're looking at Stravaig.
Stravaig are an independent bottler with two brands. Their Tri Carragh brand release some excellent single cask whiskies which are well worth looking up in their own right. But for this edition of Whisky Under £50 we're looking at their Glenlaird brand, specifically their 10 year old.
The Highland glens of Scotland are as famous as the single malt whisky they help produce. The lairds are custodians of these vast areas, ensuring they are preserved through the generations. Glenlaird pays homage to these great landscapes and traditions, showcasing the diverse range of flavours that Highland Single Malt Scotch is known for.
Glenlaird 10 Year Old
Stravaig's 10 year old ticks all the boxes we like to see here at The Dram Team. Small batch release (in this case, 9,459 bottles). Age statement, and a respectable one at that. Healthy ABV of 48%. Bottled all natural without chill filtration or added colouring.
Tasting notes
Salted vanilla and wet grass, sweet marmalade with a hint of lemon zest. Sawdust and orange peel with a toasted caramel finish.
Try this whisky if you like...
Classic Highland single malts, particularly those from independent bottlers. You can pick up a bottle of Glenlaird 10 Year Old here for £47.
