Oxford Artisan Rye Aged 3 Years

Oxford Artisan Rye Aged 3 Years

The Oxford Artisan Distillery (TOAD) craft whisky using heritage grains grown through regenerative farming. Founded in 2017, they champion sustainability, tradition, and grain-to-glass innovation. And produce exceptionally good rye whisky!

Tasting notes

Nose: Crisp green apples open the way for buttered sourdough, rye spice, and fragrant anise, with buttery biscuits, burnt brown sugar, apricot jam, rosehips, and a touch of wood polish.

Palate: Soft, buttery toffee is backed by gingerbread, and creamy waves of fruit sorbet, while hibiscus and elegant woody spice balance.

Finish: Candied ginger and tickles of chilli chocolate, rye bread with set honey, creamy rice pudding, and a savoury, herbaceous touch of caraway.

PUNI Aged 4 Years

PUNI Aged 4 Years

PUNI is Italy’s first whisky distillery, founded in 2010 in the Alpine region of South Tyrol. Known for its sleek, modern design and innovative approach, PUNI crafts whisky using locally sourced grains and pure mountain water. In this case, malted barley, malted rye, and malted wheat, with a Pinot Noir barrique finish. Bellissimo!

Tasting notes:

Nose: Creamy dark chocolate, studded with dehydrated raspberries and flaked almonds. Waves of oaken vanilla join in time, supported by sweet summer fruits.

Palate: Boiled peach and custard sweets, white chocolate buttons, and poached pear, while cracked peppercorns gather warmth.

Finish: Woody spice, with notes of cinnamon bark and cobnut brittle.

Fary Lochan Aged 6 Years

Fary Lochan Aged 6 Years

Founded in 2009, Fary Lochan is a Danish whisky distillery known for its unique use of nettle-smoked malt, which imparts an intriguing herbaceous element to the finished product. Here, that unusual character is showcased with a simple maturation in a Bourbon cask.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Sawdust, frosted carrot cake, and estery notes of drying paint are backed by green herbs and earthy, vegetal notes of nettle tea.

Palate: An intriguingly savoury start, with a tangle of rocket and garden herbs, leafy tea, and vegetal malt. Botanical notes of sappy oak and pistachio nuts.

Finish: Gentle sweetness arrives while herbal vibrance remains, with lingering notes of marshmallow and forest floor.

Willowbank Aged 18 Years

Willowbank Aged 18 Years

Once New Zealand’s largest whisky producer, Willowbank closed its doors in 1997. Its legacy lives on through its remnant cask stock, with this rare and well-aged indie bottling matured in a red wine barrel.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Jammy stewed blackcurrants, freeze-dried raspberries, a hint of cigar box, and leather furniture, with a delicate dusting of baking spice.

Palate: Robust notes of stewed red fruit, berry compote, dark cherry chocolate, and burnt sugar. Dried goji berries and a hint of woody rosemary, tannic oak spice, pepper, and old oak.

Finish: Red fruits and drying oak linger in an almost Port-like fashion, joined by woody notes of clove and tobacco, berry shrub, cracked black pepper, and a touch of balsamic.

Japanese Aged 21 Years

Willowbank Aged 18 Years

We love mysteries as much as bargains, so this really tickles our fancy. With most 21 year old Japanese whiskies clocking in at around £1,000, this showcases how indies give us access to liquid we may otherwise never sample!

Tasting notes:

Nose: Dense layers of candied nuts, boozy fruit, and sweet sherry spice with notes of roasted meat and redcurrant jelly, while tobacco, dark chocolate, and a whiff of snuffed candle rest in the distance.

Palate: Dark, jammy berries, cherries, and blackcurrants, join ginger cake, toasted nuts, floral honey, and candied orange peel, alongside plenty of wintery spice.

Finish: Sweet, herbal suggestions of root beer join dried thyme, a touch of menthol, and salted tablet, with rich sherried oak lingering.

Glenlossie Aged 31 Years

Glenlossie Aged 31 Years

Glenlossie is one of The Dram Team's favourite Scotch distilleries, so this bottling made an irresistible finale for our indie world whisky tour. Gloriously fruity and with an incredibly sumptuous mouth-feel, it's one to luxuriate over!

Tasting notes:

Nose: Generous notes of buttered brioche lead the way, backed by Caramac and vanilla cream. Buttery pastry, soft stone fruits and mellow oak join in time.

Palate: Waves of soft vanilla ice cream with toffee sauce, praline and white chocolate, honeyed almonds and juicy prunes. Fruity, estery banana and fresh dough develop beneath.

Finish: Fruity, with notes of yeasty bread and honeyed cereal, juicy barley and runny caramel.
