Welcome to the 14th instalment of our regular Whisky Under Fifty reviews, where we review a different whisky (or whiskey) that you can buy for less than £50! If you’d like to know more about why we're doing this series, read our introduction post here.
The Lakes Distillery is a Dram Team favourite. We've featured several of their releases in the past, particularly their Whiskymaker's Reserve series. That series, while well priced, would take us out of our £50 range. So, this month, let's take a look at another collection of whiskies from The Lakes. The One collection is their range of cask-finished blends, which come in around the £45 mark.
The release I've chosen for this month's Whisky Under £50 is The One Port Cask Finished.
The One Port Cask Finished
The One Collection is a range of blended whiskies by The Lakes. The Lakes use this range to show how cask finishes can enhance a whisky's flavour. It's a chance to try their unfinished expression (The One Fine Blended), and then try a cask finish - ideally, side by side.
There are several expressions in the range, including Sherry Cask, Orange Wine Cask, Manzanilla Cask, Moscatel Cask and the one I've picked today, Port Cask.
The Lakes The One Port Cask Finished is bottled at 46.6% ABV, natural colour and without chill filtration.
The One Port Cask Finished Tasting Notes
Nose: Fresh cherries, candied ginger and toasted oak.
Palate: Plum, rose petals and chocolate.
Finish: Rich, lingering and spicy.
Try this whisky if you like...
