If you liked Old Perth Cask Strength, try their PX Limited Edition

Dram Team members who have been part of the team for a while will remember the Old Perth Cask Strength and 12 Year Old we featured in our Art Of Blending Box. They're great value sherried drams, I'm a big fan. So much so, the Cask Strength expression has featured as one of our 'Whisky Under £50' recommendations. You can read that Old Perth Cask Strength article here.

So, if you're a fan too, then I have some good news for you. Rather a treat. Old Perth has launched a limited edition Pedro Ximenez aged whisky for 2023. I thought I'd take a closer look at this new expression.

Old Perth Pedro Ximenez Limited Edition

Old Perth Pedro Ximenez Limited Edition Tasting Notes

As with all the Old Perth whiskies, this expression is fully matured in sherry casks. As its title may suggest, this limited edition takes its name from the rich grape of Southern Spain (Pedro Ximenez), picked very ripe or sun-dried to concentrate their sugar and natural acidity. The whisky was aged in a combination of PX Hogsheads and Butts, and bottled at cask strength of 56.2%, natural colour and non-chill filtered.

Tasting Notes

This is a delicious dram with a great mouthfeel. There are plenty of rich sherry notes from those PX casks: deep red fruits and berries, stewed prunes, dark chocolate, and a little spice. There's also a deep savoury note like honey roast ham finished on the BBQ. The two characters work very well together.

If you'd like to try this whisky, you can pick up a bottle of Old Perth Pedro Ximenez here for a very reasonable £57.95.
