The Single Malts of Scotland is Elixir Distillers' flagship indie bottling range, and we were very excited to pick out six gems for this box. Enjoy exploring some Dram Team favourites, whether named or coyly kept as a fun-but-tasty mystery.

Lowland 2009 - Aged 13 Years

Lowland 2009 Aged 13 Years

Simply declared as "a Lowland distillery", we happen to know this one is Glenkinchie, the so-called "Edinburgh Malt". Remarkably, this is only the second time we've ever featured Glenkinchie, and the first in about eight years - so it felt high time we welcomed it warmly back!

Tasting notes:

Nose: Toasted vanilla sticks, grape juice and freshly cut grass.

Palate: Thick and unctuous, with warm spice, custard creams and lemon juice.

Finish: Buttered popcorn and lemon bitters.

Glenlossie 2008 - Aged 14 Years

Glenlossie 2008 Aged 14 Years

Glenlossie is a personal favourite of Dram Team Founder, Chris, thanks to its beautifully fruity style. It's spirit whisky geeks rave about but is little seen in single malt form - being a desirable fruit-forward component for blending - which makes a well-chosen independent cask like this a particularly satisfying discovery.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Caramelised banana and wood char with elderflower and juniper. Toasted oak and custard cream in milky chai tea.

Palate: Viscous with juniper and peppercorns set off against sweeter notes of rich tea biscuits, cherry and nutmeg spice.

Finish: Lingering dry spice with more herbal notes coming through.

Speyside 2009 - Aged 15 Years

Speyside 2009 Aged 15 Years

The label simply says "Speyside", which makes this one a little mysterious. What we do know is that it came from an Oloroso sherry butt, producing what can only be described as a classic Speyside sherry bomb. If we had to hazard a guess, we'd put our money on Glenfarclas or Macallan. We can't lose!

Tasting notes:

Nose: Rich and complex with sherry soaked dried fruits, lifted by orange flesh. Sweet maraschino cherries and vanilla linger.

Palate: Burnt orange, raisins, dates and bold spice with a dusting of cocoa powder.

Finish: Dry, lingering notes of walnut, accompanied by barley sugar and cinnamon.

Orkney 2006 - Aged 16 Years

Orkney 2006 Aged 16 Years

"Orkney distillery" is one of those clues seasoned whisky drinkers learn to recognise. Add the mention of heather-tinged peat smoke, and most roads (and there aren't loads on Orkney!) lead to Highland Park. A great example of how indies open up access to quality single casks of stunning liquid you simply couldn't get direct from the original source.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Rich blossom honey, with a hint of heather smoke and toasted almond.

Palate: Wonderfully rich with plenty of runny honey and blood orange, accompanied by wood smoke embers.

Finish: Lingering spice, with coal smoke and orange oil.

Ardmore Reserve Casks - Aged 13 Years

Ardmore Reserve Casks Aged 13 Years

Another personal favourite of Chris's, but on the peaty spectrum now. Unlike the single cask releases in this set, the Reserve Casks range combines a small batch of barrels - six here. Intriguingly, three previously held Laphroaig, adding an extra smoky Islay dimension to Ardmore's own gently peated Highland character.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Rich toffee with an undertone of green smoke. Touches of heather honey and green apple.

Palate: Brighter with raspberry leaf tea, lime sweets and dusty heather smoke.

Finish: Lingering oily smoke with light caramels and a touch of white pepper.

Tormore 1999 - Aged 23 Years

Tormore 1999 Aged 23 Years

Tormore is one of Speyside's best kept secrets, and this superb 23-year-old single cask shows exactly why. With only 189 bottles drawn from the barrel, it's a rare chance to experience this underrated distillery in seriously well-aged form. One to savour.

Tasting notes:

Nose: Rich vanilla custard with nutmeg and poached pears. Hints of toasted oak and eucalyptus.

Palate: Freshly pressed grape juice with light heather honey syrup coat the palate. Dry spice builds and complements notes of nectarine and peach.

Finish: Long and lingering spice with white pepper and tinned peaches.
