THE DISTILLERY

Region: Speyside

Nestled at the confluence of the River Fiddich and the mighty Spey, Craigellachie is a distillery that captures the robust spirit of Speyside with a boldness all its own.

Founded in 1891 by Alexander Edward, one of the era’s most ambitious whisky entrepreneurs, Craigellachie was built to serve a rapidly growing demand for full-flavoured malts to support the blending boom of the late Victorian period. Its name, meaning "rocky hill," pays tribute to the village's dramatic cliffside location overlooking the river below.

Craigellachie was considered a modern marvel at the time of its construction, with worm tubs installed from the outset to condense the spirit - a traditional method that lends the whisky its famously meaty, sulphur-rich character.

Long prized by blenders for its muscular profile, Craigellachie was rarely seen as a single malt until recent years. Today, its unapologetically distinctive style is gaining recognition from a new generation of whisky drinkers seeking something with real backbone.

Craigellachie is made in the heart of Speyside at the meeting point of two great rivers.

Craigellachie malt has long added weight and depth to some of Scotland’s most iconic blended whiskies.
