In this month's Incredible Indies whisky tasting set we're featuring five delectable drams from family-run indie bottler Secret Spirits. Secret Spirits was founded by Jonathan and Cindy Bray. They're passionate about scotch whisky, and love celebrating independent brands in particular. And as you may know, we love indie brands here at The Dram Team.
So in this edition of Whisky Under Fifty, we thought it only right to put one of Jonathan and Cindy's whiskies in the spotlight: their Secret Spirits Craigellachie 12 Year Old.
Secret Spirits Craigellachie 12 Year Old
Secret Spirits bottle all of their releases as single casks. And, they keep the whisky all natural - bottling at cask strength, without chill filtration or colouring. Their 12 year old Craigellachie is no exception. Bottled from a single bourbon hogshead at an epic 61.6% ABV.
Now, I'd recommend trying a little of this whisky neat. But then you're likely to want to add a few drops of water. This is a particularly high bottling strength, and the water will reduce any alcohol prickle while allowing those delicious fruity Craigellachie notes to breathe.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Pear syrup, fruit bonbons, warm cut grass, marmalade.
Palate: Golden syrup, pepper, rye bread, macadamia nuts, cream soda.
Finish: Long with a lasting orange beeswax note.
