As we enter week 2 of our 25 Days of Drams advent adventure, we've got a special dram from a special guest: Dram Team co-founding resident whisky expert and www.GreatDrams.com owner/author Greg Dillon is joining me with his very own GreatDrams Ardmore 8 Year Old (bottled by Douglas Laing).
(and once you're signed up for your chance to win all 25 drams, please fill out our advent calendar survey so we can make a really great one for you next year)
On with Day 8!
This GreatDrams Ardmore featured in our Malt Odyssey box in the summer, which featured 6 excellent single malts from Scotland and around the globe (you might see a few more in the coming days...stay tuned!).
Here's Greg & I catching up over his very own GreatDram:
Recap: For each day of the 25 (we're Christmas day drammers here at the Dram Team), I'm going to give a few brief reasons I think each dram is worth your time and attention - which are the same reasons I picked each one to be in our boxes in the first place. And, we're giving away the full set of drams:
Reasons why Chris and Greg recommend this whisky:
Reason 1 - This dram was hand-picked by Greg. Not only is he our in-house whisky expert here at The Dram Team, he's an industry-renowned authority on whisky, spirit competition judge and published whisky author. In other words, he's more than qualified to select a fan-flipping-tastic whisky for us! Not only that, but this bottling was brought to fruition in collaboration with Dram Team indie-bottling favourites Douglas Laing - so this Ardmore really has an unbeatable team behind it.
Reason 2 - Ardmore stands out amongst its distillery neighbours (just outside Speyside, in the Highlands) for being peated as standard - unusual for whiskies made in this area.
Reason 3 - As Greg tells it: "I looked at loads of casks with Douglas Laing...I picked this one as the flavour was incredible and what I wanted (not too polarising but had tonnes of depth) and was also from the first Scotch distillery I ever went to. The flavour, for me, is all about gentle smoke married with a lovely honey and toasted pineapple note, with a smoky white pepper spice on the finish." If that doesn't make you thirsty for a drop, nothing will!
